Centenarian Celebrated (Westwood Commons)
May 21, 2013 (North Chili, NY) ─ Westwood Commons celebrated Olive Singleton’s 103rd birthday with a party. Singleton will turn 103 on May 26, making her the oldest resident to ever to live at Westwood Commons.
Born to Mary and James Hadlock in Rochester on May 26, 1910, Olive Singleton and her four siblings grew up in Charlotte. In 1928, she married the love of her life Norman Singleton. Married for 56 years, the couple had two children, 11 grandchildren and many great and great great-grandchildren.
“She devoted her life to her husband and her family,” said Mrs. Singleton’s granddaughter Linda Moore. “She loved taking care of people who needed her.”
When she wasn’t doting over her family, Mrs. Singleton loved shopping, bowling, singing, playing bingo and flea markets.
Mrs. Singleton moved to Westwood Commons in 2006. Moore describes her grandmother as a happy, funny and grateful individual that people are drawn to.
“Her secret to living to 103 is that she doesn’t think she’s old,” said Moore. “Every once in a while, when she is tired, she says I think I might be getting old, and I reply ‘that can’t be,’ and she agrees.”
