Dyngus Day Fun for All (Glenwell)
April 25, 2014 (Cheektowaga, NY) ─ In proper Dyngus Day fashion, the women residents at Glenwell, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Cheektowaga, wielded pussy willow branches, chasing down the men residents who were armed with squirt guns! Celebrated in traditional Polish neighborhoods since the 1870s, the tradition was revived in Buffalo in 1961 and has been going strong ever since.
Pictured here, Glenwell resident Janet Ruth playfully hits resident Richard Hoesel with pussy willows while resident Irmgard Pamer enjoys a dance with Activities Assistant Brandie Vink during the senior living community’s annual Dyngus Day celebration.
Norm Kaminski provided polkas, upbeat and traditional melodies on the accordion for the senior living community’s Dyngus Day celebration. On the menu for the day was pierogis for lunch and polish sausage at dinner, topped off with chrusciki for dessert!
