Hot Flash Tap Dancers (Woodcrest Commons)

July 7, 2014 (Henrietta, NY) ─ The Hot Flash Tap Dancers are living, dancing, sequined proof that age is just a number. Ranging in age from 70 to 83 years of age, the female dance troupe earned high praises for their performance by residents at Woodcrest Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Henrietta.

Activities Director Lindsay Lown said the residents at Woodcrest found the dance troupe inspirational!

“They were in awe of how much stamina they had, how coordinated they were, their short dresses and how well they performed given their ages,” said Lown. “We’ve even had a few residents request some dancing activities here at Woodcrest Commons.”

They are joined by Woodcrest Commons resident Fred Recchio.

Dedee said the Hot Flash Dancers have been together for about three years. They perform several times a week at senior communities, private parties, and festivals including the Rochester International Jazz Fest, Fairport Canal Days, Park Avenue Festival, and their annual show at the Wegmans Concerts by the Shore Series which takes place at Lake Ontario Beach Park on August 20.

“It’s a lot of fun,” she said. “I love entertaining and I think we’re all hams. It’s just a personal pleasure to be able to see the smiles on people’s faces. No matter where we are, I think people are just amazed at what we do at our age.”
