Senior Prom for All Ages (Pee Dee Gardens)
December 22, 2014 (Florence, SC) ─ It was a night to remember! The Francis Marion University Softball Team recently hosted a senior prom for residents of area retirement communities including Pee Dee Gardens, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Florence.
Pictured above, Pee Dee Gardens resident Dr. Waddy Baroody shares a dance with Pee Dee Gardens Personal Care Assistant Meagan McKenzie while resident Kenton Walker enjoys conversing on the dance floor with Francis Marion softball player Tori Gaskins. Also pictured are Pee Dee Gardens residents Faye Howle and Dr. Waddy Baroody who were crowned king and queen of the prom.
The brainchild of Head Softball Coach Stacey Vallee, this was the first time the softball team has gotten involved in a community engagement activity involving area senior citizens, according to Assistant Coach Leslie Hensley. She said the players loved hearing their elders talk about their experiences and accomplishments in life.
“I think our girls found that everyone loves a good prom and a reason to dance,” said Hensley. “It was a great night of food, fun, old and new friends and memories I’m sure no one will soon forget.”
The event was such a success, Henlsey said, the Francis Marion University Softball Team will definitely host another senior prom next year!
