While touring the police headquarters, residents got an inside look at the holding room, observed a finger-printing demonstration and learned about the process of booking someone after they are arrested.

With 15 full-time and eight part-time police officers, community outreach is an important part of what the department does, said Wallace Police Chief Tray Giddeons, from giving tours to meeting with senior group, scouting troops and area schools. In addition, the Wallace Police Department Explorer Post 200 recently formed in an effort to educate and build interest in law enforcement for youth ages 14-21.

“All our officers need to be out visiting businesses, neighborhoods and meeting residents,” said Chief Giddeons. “It helps to establish a rapport and build trust between the community and our officers. That way we can get positive feedback and cooperation from the community when we’re investigating and out and about patrolling the streets.”
