Churches on a Mission (Pee Dee Gardens)

June 10, 2015 (Florence, SC) ─ Several area churches have been sharing the gift of fellowship with residents at Pee Dee Gardens, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Florence. Seniors have been the recipients of a Flower Ministry led by the Palmetto Street Church of God as well as the Highland Park United Methodist Church’s Hands and Feet Mission Day.

The Palmetto Street Church of God has partnered with Tommy’s Wholesale Flowers to donate over complimentary 100 vases of flowers to community members. The flowers were delivered by Palmetto Street Church of God Parishioners Joan Taylor, Barbara Matthews and Betty Freeman (pictured above).

“The Church is not confined to four walls. The church is the people and it is up to us to get out and do the ministry work in the community,” said Donald Freeman, Discipleship and Evangelism Pastor with Palmetto Street Church of God.

On Sunday May 17th Highland Park United Methodist Church came to Pee Dee Gardens as a part of their Hands and Feet Mission Day! Pictured here is Pee Dee Gardens resident Evelyn Floyd and Highland Park United Methodist Church parishioner Shannon Edmunds.

Over 200 volunteers from the church spent the afternoon volunteering throughout the community. A large group of parishioners spent time at Pee Dee Gardens painting residents’ fingernails, playing bingo and planting flowers and pulling weeds in Pee Dee Gardens’ Memory Care courtyard. They even took a few residents fishing!

“We went into the community and were the hands and feet of God,” said Hope Whaley, Director of Youth Ministries at Highland Park United Methodist Church. “It was wonderful. We are still getting thank you notes from the community!”

Pee Dee Gardens appreciates all the community support which it receives each and every day! For more information about Pee Dee Gardens, please contact Administrator Sherri Scott at (843) 667-6699 or visit us on Facebook.
