Honoring Our Nation’s Veterans (Heath House)
November 10, 2015 (Lincolnton, NC) ─ Veterans Day is an opportunity to recognize some of the 23 million brave men and women who have selflessly served our country and risked their lives to protect our freedoms. Heath House, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Lincolnton, has the honor of caring for several area veterans.
Frederick “Howard” Bumgarner served as an
Army Private in the Philippines during World War II.
John “Wesley” Heafner served as a 1st Class Navy Seaman
in the Chesapeake Bay and Bermuda.
Wilborn “Cleo” Kincaid served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer
in the Navy in San Diego, California.
Leon Link served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the
Air Force in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Bernard “Bernie” Metro served as a Private 1st Class
and on-base mailman while stationed in Japan with the Army.
Benedict “Ben” Pepitone served as a 1st Class Naval Seaman
during World War II, stationed in Sampson, New York,
the Panama Canal, Japan and the Pacific.
Dennis Presley served as a Private 1st Class and
Teletype Operator in the Army during the Vietnam War.
James “Steve” Sherrill served in the Navy Reserves
in Orlando, Florida and Galveston, Texas.
Lewis “Lew” Swartwout served as 3rd Motor Machinist
in the Navy’s Construction Battalion (SeaBees) Special Unit
in the South Pacific during World War II.
Ted Wilfong served as a Private 1st Class
in the Army during the Korean War.
