Walking Challenge Culminates in Fiesta! (Twelve Oaks)
April 29, 2016 (Mt. Airy, NC) ─ In October, residents of Twelve Oaks, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Mt. Airy, set off on a “walking challenge” to Mexico. Throughout the winter, residents logged miles walking the halls. The total distance from Mt. Airy to Mexico is 1,904 miles, according to Administrator Penny Haynes.
Residents counted two laps around the community as the equivalent of two miles. Pictured here are Twelve Oaks residents Randy Newman and Brenda Edmonds walking around the community.
On April 1st, they finally arrived in Mexico! What better way to celebrate their accomplishment than with a fiesta!
There were sombreros, a piñata, and plenty of Mexican food as Twelve Oaks celebrated the culmination of their walking challenge. Local Mexican restaurant Tlaquepaque donated chips and bean dip and the staff donated their time and supplies for the fiesta. Twelve Oaks residents Edith Reese and Ruth Mills pictured enjoying the celebration.
