Taking Beauty Into Her Own Hands (Wexford House)
April 7, 2017 (Denver, NC) ─ With a comb in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other, licensed cosmetologist Tina Malphrus is poised to bring smiles and self-confidence to residents at Wexford House, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Denver. A resident of Catawba, Malphrus has been working in the profession for 25 years. She has volunteered for with the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Better” program for 15 years, where she helps cancer patients learn to manage the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation on hair and skin.
Malphrus, who provides salon services at Wexford House twice a week, is pictured here with Wexford House residents Josephine Johnson and Frances Genta.
A mother of two and part-time nanny, Malphrus said working with seniors requires patience but is also extremely fulfilling.
“You have some ladies that were always used to having their hair done once a week,” she said. “That’s their outlet. If I can provide 30 minutes of happiness a week, that’s a great feeling!”
Malphrus is pictured left with Wexford House residents Rose Wilson, Gladys Biddix and Tommy Ledford.
