Passing it Forward (Westwood Commons)
May 3, 2017 (North Chili, NY) ─ Brandon Hummer, a senior at Roberts Wesleyan College, took time from preparing for finals and his upcoming graduation to visit some off-campus friends he made while at school. Brandon and some of his classmates have been visiting Westwood Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community, once a semester spending time with residents, including playing games and celebrating Pi Day together on March 14.
Most recently, Brandon, Violet Schullock and Sara Villia stopped in to deliver flowers to the residents. The students are part of a service-based organization called “In Jesus’ Name.” Brandon is pictured here with Westwood Commons residents Virginia Lockridge and Alice Brenkus.
Spending time with the residents is a joy, Brandon said. It’s especially satisfying when he’s able to brighten up someone’s day who might not be feeling well or may not be the most outgoing socially. This was Brandon’s final visit before he graduates.
“It’s definitely something I’ll miss,” he said. “Some of them just really appreciate it. It’s very rewarding.”
