Colorful Celebrations (Woodcrest Commons)

February 19, 2018 (Henrietta, NY) ─ From a New Orleans carnival and parade to a sweet Valentine’s Day filled with crafts, celebrations and treats, February has been a festive month for Woodcrest Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Henrietta.

The Mardi Gras celebration kicked-off with bingo with prizes, candy, necklaces and free scoops of ice cream, followed by Woodcrest Commons’ annual Mardi Gras parade. Residents promenaded down the hallway wearing crowns, necklaces, using noisemakers and handing out candy to staff and other residents. Wheelchairs and walkers were decorated in balloons and streamers, the sounds of jazz played while a bubble blower set the stage for the dessert “float” featuring tie-dye pound cake and punch.

Residents were busy preparing for Valentine’s Day, making homemade maple walnut and chocolate fudge, wreaths and lovebird birdhouses. On the big day, residents celebrated with love songs performed by the Gentlemen of Song and a photo booth. Each senior received an individual cake with cupid floats (Cherry 7 Up and vanilla ice cream), chocolate roses and a box of chocolates.
