Feeling the Love at Southfork
February 13, 2018 (Winston-Salem, NC) ─ High school sweethearts Norman and Ann Miller are keeping the love alive. The couple who lives at Southfork, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Winston-Salem, say the secret to their 67 years of marriage is compromise.
“It’s about admitting you’re not always right and being willing to compromise,” the couple said. “Just do the best you can.”
Ann and “Buster,” as she affectionately calls Norman, enjoy walks around Southfork, attending activities and going on outings.
They enjoy visits with their family and their dog Buddy who now lives with their son. The two met when they were in 7th grade, but it wasn’t until high school that they started going for rides together with mutual friends and really hit it off.
“We just knew,” they said. “We were special to each other.”
The Millers wed in 1950 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Shortly after they said “I do” they built a house where they stayed living until they moved to Southfork last August. The couple has four children. Norman was a machinist for Westinghouse and Ann worked as an LPN for Baptist Health System.
