Smiles for Miles at Hickory Village
June 27, 2018 (Hickory, NC) ─ A matinee at the movies and celebrating National Selfie Day has staff and residents at Hickory Village Memory Care, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Hickory, feeling like kids again!
National Selfie Day, celebrated on June 21, gave residents a chance to see themselves in a whole new light! Fun filters brought bright smiles to everyone’s faces as they snapped away!
Activities Director Jessica White said it was a good opportunity for residents to experiment with technology, which is constantly changing. Staff said it was a great time seeing the fun reactions of the residents when the filter appeared.
“They would touch the top of their heads wondering why they couldn’t feel the ears on top of their heads,” said White. “One resident even commented and said that after all these years of having brown eyes she was surprised to see she had blue eyes in the picture!”

“It was so nice being able to see their face light up when they saw the popcorn and soda pop coming,” said White. “Most of them cried when the main character’s dad died. One resident was so thrilled because she hasn’t been to the movies in over 25 years.”
