Dyngus Day Celebration at Glenwell

April 25, 2019 (Cheektowaga, NY) ─ Residents at Glenwell, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Cheektowaga, revel in celebrating Dyngus Day, a holiday to celebrate Polish-American culture and heritage! Staff and residents upheld the annual tradition of tapping one another with pussy willow branches, opting to skip sprinkling one another with water.

Pictured here, Clara Gilbert wields a branch of pussy willows while resident Rose Zanghi and staff member Christine Karcher enjoy dancing to Polish music performed by Norm Kaminski. Residents also enjoyed some Chrusciki, a traditional Polish dessert.

“There’s a lot of Polish history in Buffalo, so Dyngus Day brings back a lot of memories of Easter traditions of shopping with the family at Broadway Market for butter lambs, Polish sausage and pussy willows,” said Activities Director Scott Wieser.

Buffalo is officially the Dyngus Day capitol of America, hosting the largest concentration of festival locations, polka bands and Polish traditions in the nation. The celebration includes the Annual Dyngus Day Parade in Buffalo’s historic Polonia District, the Dyngus Day Dash, a two-person, one-mile relay event held on the Houghton Park track, live music, and much more!
