All Aboard the Excalibur! (Wheatfield Commons)

July 24, 2019 (North Tonawanda, NY) ─ It was a relaxing day on the water as residents from Wheatfield Commons, a DePaul Senior Living Community in North Tonawanda, stepped aboard the Excalibur for a tour of Lake Erie and an up-close look at some tall ships!

The Excalibur is a private, non-profit, all-volunteer charitable organization dedicated to providing boating and fishing opportunities for developmentally challenged and disadvantaged persons. Its goal is to provide access to Lake Erie, as well as other developmental, therapeutic and recreational opportunities for Human Services Agencies and their related programs.

Located behind Charlie’s Boat Yard, the Excalibur depends on donations to pay the retired veterans who run the boat. Activities Director Laurie Tierney said the captain of the boat was wonderful and regaled the residents with a history lesson. Residents also got a close-up view of some of the tall ships docked at the harbor for the upcoming Tall Ships Erie 2019 Festival.
