Heartfelt Acts of Service at Glenwell

January 31, 2023 (Cheektowaga, NY) ─ “Life’s persistent and most urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’,” said Martin Luther King, Jr.

Residents at Glenwell, a DePaul Senior Living Community in Cheektowaga, had the spirit of service in mind when it comes to some recent activities and outreach efforts.

Glenwell residents took pride in making a “birthday card” for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by recreating a photo collage of his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech. They also listened to King’s famous speech and music from the era, and discussed the changes residents have witnessed during their lives and the progress that still needs to be made. Ruby Joiner is pictured with the card.

Also in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is designated as a National Day of Service, residents made no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides comfort to children who are seriously ill or otherwise in need. Residents also crafted homemade Valentine’s Day cards for the Angel Card Program, which provides cards to people who receive Meals on Wheels. Ronald Janicki is pictured with the quilt and Maria Sanchez is pictured making a card.

Hearts were also warmed by a batch of the ultimate comfort food, homemade chicken noodle soup, assembled by Glenwell residents! Pictured trying the completed recipe is Eileen Finnigan.
