Centenarian Celebrations at Wheatfield Commons
July 14, 2023 (North Tonawanda, NY) ─ Wheatfield Commons has 202 reasons to celebrate. Two residents of the DePaul Senior Living Community in North Tonawanda marked milestone birthdays in late-June.
Tomasina Cammarata, a resident of Wheatfield Commons, celebrated her 100th birthday. The oldest of seven children, her parents both emigrated to the US from Italy and settled on the west side of Buffalo.
During World War II, Tomasina worked at Curtis Wright making parts for airplanes to assist the war effort. In 1948, she married John Cammarata, who served in the U.S. Navy during the war. She has three daughters, five grandchildren and six great-granddaughters.
Tomasina stays busy and moving at Wheatfield Commons, especially when taking part in weekly bus trips, painting and participating in arts and crafts. Her secret to longevity is “getting up early, taking a shower and eating a good breakfast.” For Tomasina, breakfast has been two hardboiled eggs, two pieces of toast and fruit for much of her life. She celebrated her milestone birthday with cake, friends, family and entertainment by John Rena.
Moderation, prayer and “making the best of every situation” have carried Howard Biondi through more than a century of life. Howard recently celebrated his 102nd birthday at Wheatfield Commons surrounded by friends, family and with entertainment by Violena Music.
A native of east Buffalo, Howard served in the US Army during World War II as a technician fourth grade, with the 496th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. Howard worked for A&P for 30 years as meat manager and served as president of Grover Cleveland Golf Course. Howard’s wife, Theresa Marinaccio, who he knew since they were children, passed away in 1984 from breast cancer. The couple had three children together.
